So you got yourself a fancy new Windows Phone 7 device and want to unlock it. Well head on over to ChevronWP7 as they have a tool which will do just that. All you’ll need is the software and a USB cable and within a few moments you will have yourself an unlocked WP7 device. This will allow you to install 3rd party apps without needing a Marketplace account. It seems like platform specific communities are coming out with ways to “unlock” a device quicker with each release.
As you can guess Microsoft frowns upon this practice and has released a statement on the subject.
“We anticipated that people would attempt to unlock the phones and explore the underlying operating system. We encourage people to use their Windows Phone as supplied by the manufacturer to ensure the best possible user experience. Attempting to unlock a device could void the warranty, disable phone functionality, interrupt access to Windows Phone 7 services or render the phone permanently unusable.”
Pretty much sounds like a slap on the wrist to me. Anyone out already unlock your WP7 phone?
