Well here we are, all the sudden there is a lot of news behind the new WebOS, a new Palm device and HP beefing up the staff of the Palm developers. So lets take a look at some of the things we know so far. First we have some new leaked screen shots of the new OS and as you can see it looks pretty … Palmy? As you can see there is a Just Type feature which looks like a universal search feature. Much like the other big OS’s have. You’ll be able to search for keywords and the OS will return any e-mail, text, contact, application etc., etc. that matches.
Another big development in the new OS is the introduction of a virtual keyboard. There are no screen shots of this as of yet but there was a leaked code from the SDK that pretty much proves it’s existence. Which then prompted the following response from Palm:
Over react much? Well they thought they did:
So on top of all these fun end user changes it also looks like HP is flooding the development team with engineers to help beef up the enterprise side of things. The 200 new people will be helping with “enterprise-class security” and other such things. I imagine that includes VPN capabilities as well:
As far as a new device goes? Well there’s one coming but for some reason Palm is going all Apple on us and not letting us in on any details. I would probably wager that you can expect some big things though since HP is in the game now and they’ll probably be looking to WebOS 2.0 to be able to function on several platforms such at tablets. Jornada anyone?
