Palm not dead yet?

Earlier this month we posted that HP CEO Mark Hurd wasn’t planning on being in the smartphone business.  Hurd stated that they were planning on utilizing WebOS to interconnect web enabled devices.  According to a report from IntoMobile, a Palm rep was quoted saying in a webinar that “We are working on future devices. And [a] new version of the OS. So I think, you’re going to find the next year very exciting.”

What, what, what?  Just when we thought the Palm device (or whatever HP will call it) was dead it looks like 2011 has promise for Palm users.  Palm may really be in a good position to re-enter the smart phone market.  They now have the resources and backing of HP and let’s not forget the Palm Pre did gain some success when released seemingly ages ago.

So the question is does Palm have a chance?  The smartphone market is getting crowded with Android, iOS, BlackBerry, and the elusive Windows Mobile 7. Competition will only be good for the consumer.  Needless to say my interest is peaked with what Palm can bring to the smartphone market.
