Right now most people are still excited by the recent news of the iPhone 4 heading to Verizon in early February. But what does Apple have up it’s sleeves next? The folks over at Engadget have the scoop on what we can expect from the next generation iPad2 and iPhone5. First off it looks like (based on the Verizon iPhone4) Apple is moving from the Infineon to Qualcomm chipset. Makes sense since Qualcomm is more CDMA. The significance of that is we can expect to see dual GSM/CDMA chipsets in the next iterations of both products. That’s huge since we could see Verizon and AT&T versions launch at the same time. Let’s take a look each product.
iPhone 5
- Total Redesign of device
- A5 processor
- No Home Button
- Multi-touch Gestures
- CDMA/GSM/UMTS chipset
- Expected Summer 2011 launch
iPad2
- Still 10-inch display
- Retina Display – similar to iPhone4
- No Home Button
- Multi-touch Gestures
- Front and back cameras (no surprise here)
- No traditional USB slot
- Dual GSM/CDMA/UMTS chipset
- SD memory card slot
- Expected April 2011 release
Again, this may still need to be put into the RUMOR column but based on the rumors that have been floating out there this seems accurate. I was initially surprised Apple didn’t make much of a presence at CES this year if this all pans out they probably didn’t want to get drowned in a sea of Android news. What do you think? Shall we call moose on this or is it legit?
