Here’s a peek at what RIM has planned for handsets the remainder of 2010. From the chart it almost looks like RIM could release one device a month for the remainder of the year. So lets take a closer look at the chart.
The first couple devices, the BlackBerry 9800 and BlackBerry 9300 are no surprise. It’s interesting to see the 9800 code named Talladega as we’ve seen it as a Bold and recently Torch. The 9300 also seems to have a couple code names as the Keepler and Aries II. China and India carriers are being thrown a bone with the Atlas which looks like a Bold device with an 8900 keyboard.
The fourth device on the chart is the Onyx Delta 9900. Given the description is this the rumored 9700a we posted a couple weeks ago? The specs seems to match up other than the model number.
The Oxford is the 9670 Clamshell that seems to be heading to Verizon despite the video walk through posted as registered with Sprint’s network. If there is a significance in the order of this chart it looks like the next evolution of the 9700, Onyx Delta, will be released before the 9670 Clamshell.
The last device is code named Dakota under the Curve family. There isn’t much detail on this device but a touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard does peak my interest. Question is will the hardware be equipped for BlackBerry 6? I would assume so if it is last to be released in the list.
The last year or so I thought RIM was so dis-jointed in releasing so many different devices over different carriers and would’ve liked to see more unity in device brand names between carriers. I think it has gotten better in consolidating the Bold/Tour family. In my opinion the Pearl Flip was a let down so it will be interesting to see if the Oxford will do better in the flip phone realm. I’m excited to see the 9800 in action and what the Onyx Delta brings to the table. The 9300 Kepler (or is it Aries II) looks like it will be a good addition to the Curve family and my curiosity is peaked with the Dakota. In all I think most of us are ready to see if BlackBerry 6 lives up to the hype.
Comment your thoughts on RIM’s Product Roadmap.
