So way back on the 8th (I’m late on this one.), T-mobile has officially announced the launch of the G2 by HTC. So what can you expect from this new version of an old classic (G1)?
- 3.7″ screen (480 x 800)
- 5 MP camera
- 800 MHz Qualcomm processor
- Android 2.2
In the grand scheme of things that’s a decent little phone. Originally the phone was to come out for $199. However since that rumor RadioShack has tweeted they would be carrying the phone for $149 after an instant rebate. My thoughts on this? Well if T-mobile is going to stick with the $199 price tag I think they’re asking a bit much. Even running it at $179 would make me feel better. At the end of the day paying $199 for this phone when you can get phones like the Droid 2, Droid X, Evo 4G and even the Vibrant for that price seems a bit silly. I’m not saying the G2 isn’t going to be a great device. The G1 was great for when it came out and HTC makes good devices but it doesn’t even have stats to hold up to the Nexus One (which T-mobile launched at the beginning of the year). However, if you can pick it up for $149 from RadioShack then I think it’s a deal. Looks like great Android phone for an average user, Sense UI has been a favorite of mine between the different flavors and you know how much I love the physical keyboard. Would you pay $199 for this phone? How about $149?
Also I missed the fun little marketing game T-mobile played on Twitter. I’m always a sucker for binary.
Here’s the T-mobile press release.
